Korean National Council of Women held a “Policy Roundtable inviting
the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Affairs” at the National Press
Club on the 20F of the Press Center on April 18th. At this round table,
held by the Korean National Council of Women and where 150 women
leaders were present, there was an explanation of women’s policies under
the President Park’s government and discussion of the major policy direction
for the future by Minister Yun-Sun Cho of Gender Equality and Family Affairs.

This was followed by questions and recommendations by the leaders of various women's organizations.
The new government has demonstrated concern for development of women’s policies,
such as introduction of “targets for women managers of public corporations.”
Furthermore, in February they announced “measures to support the continuance of job experience by life cycle”,
but some women's organizations have also raised questions about the effectiveness of certain policies.
On this day, President Jung-Sook Kim of the Korean National Council of Women said in her greetings,
“Various policies have been pursued to promote women’s economic activities in the past,
but the problem of discontinuity in career has not been solved.”
She went on to implore that “the policies introduced this time should be implemented and
checked thoroughly so that they are not as ineffective as existing policies.”

Minister Yun-Sun Cho of Gender Equality and Family Affairs said,
“I will make the recommendations by the leaders of women's organizations today including
President Jung-Sook Kim’s precious suggestions for the formulation of women’s policies in the future.”
A plea was made for women’s organizations to continue support given to activities
of the new government. Women leaders who participated in the roundtable delivered
the voice of women's organizations through questions and recommendations on various women’s issues
including promoting women’s representativeness in various fields of society and policy initiatives
to make family and work compatible. Words of encouragement and support delivered
for the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Affairs were met with warm applause.
